Chapter 25 Overview
Students will discover how the innovations of the late 1800s had dramatic impacts on the lives of Americans. In particular how inventions such as the assembly line, electric power and the telephone spurred rapid industrialization. The chapter will begin with an experiential exercise where students take on the role of workers on an assembly line. Throughout the chapter we will discuss the rise of big business, the growth of cities, working conditions, labor unions and the tragic story of the Triangle Factory. Students will use this knowledge to evaluate if the benefits of this rise in industry outweighed its costs.
