Chapter 21 Overview
In this chapter students will discover the series of events that created deep divisions in the United States during the mid-1800s and compromise that were made in an effort to hold the country together. Class discussions will center around the essential question: Which events of the mid-1800s kept the nation together and which events pulled it apart. Classroom activities will included the investigation of visual images that students will analyze and bring to life in two Act-it-Out Activities. In addition students will read and analzye news articles written during this era. The chapter will conclude with the processing assignment which will have the choose the event that had the most significant impact on pulling the nation apart. They will use that event write an editorial about the event and its impact on the country
